A Red Jeanna Paquin Dress

1940s-jeanne-paquin-party-store-109x200Jeanna Paquin was a fashion designer in France known for her modern and innovative designs. She was born in Saint-Denis in 1869. Paquin trained as dressmaker in Maisson Rouff and later opened The House of Paquin in 1890. The House during its prime years was one of the most successful fashion designers in Paris. Leaving the House in 1920 she died 16 years later in 1936. The House of Paquin continued operations until 1956 when it closed its doors due to financial problems.

The red dress to the left is from the 1940s and was recently sold on eBay on March 17, 2009 for $789.99 by Party-Store. The dress is made from Rayon fabric and its design is inline with the popular dance of the period, Tango and Swing. This custom dress is closed by 3 buttons and a hook and eye closure that when unfastened allows the dress to completely open in front.
